Inspired by Mary Thomas’s book, ‘Dictionary of Embroidery Stitches’ this workshop explores an array of embroidery stitches, and the practice of mark making different textures and patterns on fabric. Each participant will build up a ‘library of stitches’ sampler to take home. Suitable for beginners, I will take you step by step through the process of each stitch throughout the workshop.
This workshop offers the participant to embrace the slow, meditative practice of hand stitching, aiming to still the mind with the rhythm and small gesture of each stitch. The focus of this workshop will be the creative process of learning each stitch, rather than the outcome.
In this workshop, I will guide you through setting your frame, and transferring each pattern. You will learn fundamental outline and border embroidery stitches, including stem, chain, whipped chain, cable, feather, fern stitch, french knot, seed stitch, spider’s web, sheaf, trellis, couching stitch and more.
All materials will be provided for the class, however if you wish to purchase your own kit, please purchase this separately through the website when booking the class (please select ‘stitch exploration kit’).
